I was wondering wich one of these programs you guys recommend. I have heard of skype and gizmo project but i am sure others are available. Wich one works best with screen readers.
I've never used gizmo project. Used skype, msn, aim, and yahoo. I think msn and aim are the easiest to use and the most popular.

skype has scripts that work very well, the program is very easy to use once you get them. haven't been able to test all the features since i'm on dialup.
skype works well with the jaws scripts and w.e 6 supports skype as well you have to play with the config manager to get jaws to read the list in gizmo yahoo aim and msn work well with jaws.
I've never used the Gizzmo Project, but have used AIM/MSN/Yahoo/Skype and they all work with jaws. But I like using skype to voice chat with people, sence it is very clear if your on any type of high speed connection. If your on dial-up, it will lag really bad.

Skype all the way, for everything! The jaws scripts support reviewing of chat messages, as well as their automatic speaking. You can also set up "auto-actions" for individual contacts, and these actions are independent of one another. With that said, I still use MSN, too.

Yes, but there are a few prerequisites:
You'll need the latest revision of the skype scripts, skype's global hot keys must be enabled, and a key must be bound to the action you desire. Fulfilling all these, the next step is to press control+shift+a when focused on your choice contact. The default action is 'alt+pageUp,' which is skype's default call answering hot key. You can change this to whatever you like. Just be sure your changes are reflected in both places that matter (the auto-action for your contact, and the global hot key assignment).
I like skype, it's really cool, and the scripts are also awesome. I also do use msn and aim too though.
I have both skype and windows messenger. I can't voice chat on windows messenger, because the person cuts out at every other work, but I can text chat, and have gotten use to text chat. I think I'd like skype better if i were on dial up, but I am on dial up, and don't use it very often. I don't think the scripts I have are very good, they don't tell you automatically who's calling you, but the scripts on the jfwlite home page, you have to have someone walk you through those i think, because it's not a matter of downoading them and just copying and pasting them in the right jaws folder. There's the sk read, which i think reads when someone comes online, and maybe when someone goes offline, not sure. I don't really see the point in doing much about it while i'm still on dial up, but will look in to trying to make it more accessible if i get on broad band. I don't kinow how well aim works with xp and jaws 7.0, because i use to have it with jaws 5.0 and windows 98 and jaws would continuously read older messages over and over before reading the newest ones, which was rather a pain.

windows live messanger and skype work very well for me as well, i really like the voice clip in windows messanger
now, if we can get skype to not pop up and grab focus if someone calls... lol

AIM works jsut fine with jaws7.0 I'm a jaws7.0 user and it works just fine. As for windows live messenger, it is horrible with my connection. It signs you out every other time. But I'm hopeing that 88.1 will better with broadband connections. The voice clips thing is okay with MSN.

well, i know sighted folks on the skype forum want that to happen, so it should be something for the developers to look in to.
I actually like the idea of a pop-up alert for incoming calls. However, pop-up doesn't mean hang around and steal focus. lol

I like the idea of Gizmo, hastle-free recording. I just wish there was a customer service number to call or email address to ask to get an account since I don't have sighted people around to deal with the graphic code which I get an error relating to the display of it anyways.

For voice chatting skype is the best, with window's live not far behind.
Aim I would not reccomend for voice chat because it sux, but it is good for text chatting.
So is window's live, skype can be tricky, for text chatting, but I don't use scripts with it so that may be my problem.
I have not used the latest version of gizmo but if you use it, it's best used for voice chat, though skype is still the best.
and if you want 44.1KHZ quality, use vt.
hey i set my bf to auto answer but it doesnt work for some fucked up reason. could it be that he was offline when i set the action? I hae hotkeys enabled my answer call key is alt pg up and its relating that in the dialog box when i hit control shift a on pei's name its not answering though when he calls. what do I do?
